Area 1 focuses on shifting food environments and consumer behaviour to promote sustainable consumption of safe, healthy, nutritious, affordable, accessible, equitable and culturally acceptable tasteful foods while tackling malnutrition in all its forms.

Pillar Description
Pillar 1.1 Area1, Pillar 1 focuses on guiding consumer behaviour towards sustainable and healthy diets through education, food literacy, and interventions in food environments to promote healthier, more sustainable consumption.
Pillar 1.2 Area 1, Pillar 2 focuses on domestic food practices to enhance sustainable and healthy diets, ensuring food safety, nutritional needs, and reducing consumption of unhealthy foods through household-level strategies.
Pillar 1.3 Area 1, Pillar 3 focuses on transitioning to sustainable diets while ensuring food security and nutritional needs for all, particularly vulnerable populations, through tailored dietary guidelines and interventions.

CHANGE THE WAY WE PROCESS & SUPPLY

Area 2 focuses on reorienting activities of post farming and post fishing food producers (focus: industrial processing and supplying) with the aim of increasing diversity of healthy, safe, affordable and accessible products based on sustainable production.

Pillar 2.1 Area 2, Pillar 1 focuses on transforming food processing through diversification, minimal processing, circularity, and sustainable packaging to reduce environmental impact while maintaining food safety and quality.
Pillar 2.2 Area 2, Pillar 2 focuses on sustainable food supply chains, including logistics, short food supply chains, and digitalisation to optimise resource use, reduce waste, and enhance transparency and efficiency.

Area 3 focuses on enhancing the way consumers engage with and trust food systems by increasing trust and transparency, diversity in consumer engagement, and food democracy with the goal of reshaping food systems to be more inclusive, participatory, and sustainable.

Pillar 3.1 Area 3, Pillar 1 focuses on the importance of trust and transparency in food systems to build consumer confidence, ensure traceability, and enable informed decision-making across the food supply chain.
Pillar 3.2 Area 3, Pillar 2 focuses on engaging consumers and embedding their agency in food systems, fostering multi-actor collaboration and capacity building to drive collective action and shared responsibility.
Pillar 3.3 Area 3, Pillar 3 focuses on the role of food democracy in empowering citizens to participate in decision-making, promote equitable access to food, and foster sustainable food practices through participatory governance.

CHANGE THE WAY WE GOVERN

Area 4 focuses on fostering governance for a positive food system transformation in an interaction among the public sector, private sector, civil society, and consumers to identify, implement, resource, and monitor solutions for achieving healthy, sustainable, resilient, just, and equitable food systems without leaving anyone behind.

Pillar 4.1 Area 4, Pillar 1 focuses on the current state of food systems governance, including policy frameworks, coordination mechanisms, and the effectiveness of existing structures in addressing sustainability challenges.
Pillar 4.2 Area 4, Pillar 2 focuses on sustainable food systems governance and power dynamics, aiming to address inequities, promote inclusive policy development, and ensure fair distribution of resources and benefits.
